09.27.2006 5:52 Meet Edward, Scottsburg, VA 24589This is a great balance to the Jeff Jarvis video. The impromptu interview and uneasiness of someone like Edward being interviewed about his everyday life as a resident of the place where you find yourself is refreshing. If this videoblog should (as jarvis said) be categorized as television, then Edward’s interview is the real reality TV.
Why are you people up at the same time as me? And im in Europe!
I would die if Amanda asked me what time it was, not just cause I’d be nervous about talking with her but also ’cause I don’t wear a watch.
Ah roadtrips! gotta love ‘em! Wish I could do more of them.
I just this morning picked you up thanks to Andy Carvin’s blog (whose vids in QT I still can’t see on my elder Mac and who doesn’t publish in Flash like you do.. hint, hint Andy).
As an aging roadtripper m’self I just wanted to check in to say I’ll be hitching a ride along with you all. This should be grand fun!
Thanks to all the crew. (lucky dogs)
Hey Amanda, you sound like a northeast snob. Of course, gas is cheaper in Virginia than in Conn. So is everything else. Welcome to the real world. I am glad you are out in our neck of the woods now. You can see how most people live.
Another great interview! It is nice that you take time to stop and talk with the interesting people that others might overlook.
Cool, you’re headed toward my old hometown of Greensboro. It’s one of the great mid-size cities in the U.S. I had no idea it was blogger crazy. Post if you’ll be anywhere near Knoxville.
“I’m on disability right now”
“I’m sorry to hear that”!
That would have been a good time to start digging. Should we be sympathetic, or is he a welfare cheat?
Hey,
Oprah is doing the same thing in her road show.
Nicely done.
The culture shock will start at the edge of the bible belt, the Mississippi. It ought to be fun to watch. Be sure to stay together, and in well lighted areas.(ha)
[...] Our FLICKR feed is one my favorite tools we’ve been using to document the trip… we are able to update it the most frequently out of all the media we are creating…so THE FORCE can be right there… traveling along with us. It really tells the story of the places we’ve been… where the interviews do a better job to illustrate the people we’re meeting. Are there any particular questions you would like us to ask locals along the way, THE FORCE? As you can see from our clip with Edward in Virginia… we are looking to add more short, unedited pieces… [...]
I love edward. Keep communicating!
That was a great moment from the road. I think that in this way videoblogging is different from TV. TV stories go in with an angle. As a vlogger you are getting the opportunity, with the camera, to meet someone you might not have gone up to if you were just driving through.
The videocamera can help break the ice and allow you to talk to people you might not have normally spoken with. When I’m out with it, I meet a lot more people and learn more about them, if I ask them for an interview.
What would happen if you walked up to someone and started to ask them about themselves without the aid of a camera?
I usually strike up conversations with those around me any way. The camera can either help or hurt that type of exchange.
This was a good one.
Thanks,
–Steve
Happy southern guy…still looking for the confederate flag.
