Taser-flu

Posted on Monday 15 January 2007

I’m better. Yay! Got significantly better by Saturday morning and completely recovered yesterday. Whew. That was awful. I guess this means no more ordering Mario around and demanding elbows with chicken broth. That pretty much was my existence for the past 3 or 4 days. Poor Mario. He’s such a nice guy.

We don’t even have cable yet here in the new place so I’ve been watching DVDs of The Comeback and Fat Actress… which are both like Curb, but less popular. I’ve also been enjoying the headlines from my little tasering mission. My favorite? How Far is Too Far; Blogger Tasered –that headline made me giggle. Was it the flu or was it the tasering that brought about this illness?… I tend to agree with Chuck’s comment in the Man Down post… but Leron might be on to something as well… well, I will never know I guess since I definitely won’t be trying out a taser voluntarily again (who knows… I could end up getting tasered somewhere down the line involuntarily… I am pretty naughty sometimes). Anyway, I’ve spent my time in bed thinking about why I did it. This is what I came up with:

1. I like stunts. They make people nervous… and nervous people are funny.
2. When I’m reporting I like to be as close to “the action” as possible… because I think it makes for a more interesting story… now this can mean anything from smelling the cow dung bedding to getting tasered.
3. CES was hella boring! I was trying to stay awake! Seriously, I am not going next year… I’ll go to San Fran instead.

I would like to say that “I’m just a really curious person”… and that’s why I did it. But that would be a lie. I’m not curious enough to have done that if there weren’t cameras around to document it. If I’m going to do something crazy like that, I want it on tape, man. That said, under no circumstances will I:

1. Sing in public solo (I will chime in if others are singing and if forced– the Happy Birthday song comes to mind– but sometimes I fake it and just move my lips–SHHHHH!)
2. Do any Fear Factor type eating of bugs or cow placenta or whatever horrible things they have those people ingest.

Ok I’m done talking about this. I’m all tasered out!

Re: CES – Did you go to the BlogHaus room? That was apparently “the” hot place to be, according to Scoble.

Hey W.0.– yes, I have jumped out of a plane…but I found bungee jumping way more exhilerating comparatively. Those were things I did just for fun tho…not for the cameras.

Hey amanda you know what is funny? When you click on the video link for your tasering fun, a random ad pops up. You know what my ad was? It was for flu medicine. That is kind of ironic.

I’m wondering if you did the taser thing before or after the “Dutch want New York back” story you did… please tell me someone reminded you of basic U.S. History 101. New York was called New Amsterdam first when the Dutch bought it from the Indians for beads. A quick check of new media like wikipedia or google would have given you the answer. Try not to let the reporter gig make you into the online version of a local newsperson. Local news should die a slow death not be reborn on the internet. I’m supportive of you and your attempt to challenge old media, so please take this as constructive criticism.

    Hi Amanda,

Rob here, I don’t know who you are (I know where the hell have I been) but glad your better. I just thought I would get on here and bloggit all to hell. I haven’t been sick since I was a little kid. I thought it was odd that I wasn’t then upon giving a blood test it was discovered that I had an exhorbitant amount of antibodies in my blood. I have the hereditary existence of antibodies of my entire gene pool. Needless to say they won’t let me give blood. They say my blood might hurt someone by essentially giving them what I have a natural defense against. It’s kinda cool in a dark way to be poison. Stay healthy & happy!

Ha ha.. I saw the Daily Show clip. I liked it. I just wish he would have asked us for better footage.. we of course shot it on a very nice camera. But that was all part of the joke, so whatever… hehe.

    Hey Jeff,

yea.. I know about the history of New York.. although I guess it didn’t come off that way since others have made similar comments to yours… I just wondered why the website? And why demand it back now? Seemed like an inside joke among friends to me…

    Amanda,
I just wanted to say you are probably the bravest gal I know. I don’t know a single soul who volunteer to get zapped with a taser. I am way impressed. But…are you crazy???!!
